Perform preventative maintenance

Operate and maintain air conditioning and ventilation systems

Operate, troubleshoot and maintain air compressors, chillers and refrigeration machines, pumps and pumping stations

Operate, monitor and maintain water treatment systems

Inspect and verify fire suppression and sprinkler systems
-
Inspect, test and verify emergency power and lighting systems
-
Operate, monitor and maintain heating systems and low pressure boilers
-
Operate electrical systems

Maintain fume hoods
-
Operate and maintain control system instrumentation

Inspect and monitor plumbing
-
Monitor and analyze utility consumption
Personal Qualities
- You may be required to work in cramped areas or on ladders
- You are willing to work outside part of the time
- You have the stamina to be on your feet for long periods of time
- You like doing maintenance duties
- You are extremely safety conscious

Career Opportunities
- Journeypersons work for small, medium and large companies in the industrial, commercial, institutional or residential sectors or indirectly for those companies through contractors
Educational/Training Requirements
- The minimum entry for apprenticeship is Grade 12
- Completion of a 7,280 hourapprenticeship program is required
- If you have completed8,000 hours of on the job experience but have not completed the Apprenticeship Program you may be eligible to challenge the Certificate of Qualification
