Employers are champions! By mentoring apprentices, they ensure that the right skills are properly taught and learned. In today’s competitive economy, employers who train have an advantage. They benefit from investing in valuable, skilled employees. In this Employers/LIC section, we provide information that helps employers who already have apprentices as well as those employers who are considering taking on an apprentice for the first time. The Recruitment and Retention section contains research studies, interviewing techniques and tips, and a retention checklist that outlines simple but effective things employers can do to keep their employees.
There are several programs and resources in the community that aim to help employers with training. The Financial Incentives section provides this information, including information on tax credits, on available help in recruiting new employees, and on skills development for existing employees. For general and trade specific information on apprenticeships, check out the Industry Links section. Through Local Industry Committees, tradeability.ca works with employers to tackle apprenticeship issues. Learn about Local Industry Committees (LIC) in general and the benefits for employers who belong to one. Read about the work of specific Durham LICs. If you would like to become involved as a volunteer member of one of these committees, the Local Industry Committees section has links enabling you to contact the LIC of interest to you. Tradeability.ca values employers as champions in the apprenticeship process and is committed to supporting their efforts to address local industry apprenticeship issues and concerns.
